Could You Stand Complete Silence???

So there's this lab in Minneapolis called the Orfield Laboratories that houses this crazy looking room.  They call it an anechoic chamber and it's a 99.99% sound proof room that holds the Guinness World Record for quietest place in the world.  The longest anyone has ever survived in it is a whopping 45 minutes!

Apparently people start hallucinating when the silence gets to them and freak out...cray!

The man-in-charge (Steven Orfield) says that, "When it's quiet, ears will adapt.  The quieter the room, the more things you'll here.  You'll hear your heart beating, sometimes you can hear your lungs, hear your stomach gurgling quietly.  In the anechoic chamber, you become the sound."

YOU become the sound...shit's deep.

He also said the experience is so disorienting you can't even stand up.  Evidently, we use sound cues to to orient ourselves and obvi the chamber takes those away.  You have to sit in a chair or your ass will be flopping around like a GD turd in the wind.

They use the room for astronauts to see if they can handle not freaking out when they start hallucinating.  Orfield stated that "Space is like one giant anechoic chamber."

Gnarly!  I bet I could last an hour....depending on how much I've drank that day of course.
