Study - Should Obese Kids Be Removed from Parent's Custody?

Um, no!!!  How about FUCK NO!  How's that answer?

I don't have kids and barely like the little buggers so I'm not going to wax all parental here, but I am going to comment as a person with half a GD brain.

Harvard-based specialist on childhood obesity, Dr. David Ludwig, has co-written an article in Journal of the American Medical Association making a case for dangerously obese kids being removed from parents and put into temporary foster care.  What is this horseshit???  Talk about the government getting all up in your Kool-Aid!

Granted, he's not saying that every little chunky monkey be removed but rather "...that in extreme cases it may be more ethical for children to be placed in temporary foster care rather than subjected to gastric bypass surgery. Just as children are occasionally removed from their parents if they're extremely underweight (known as "failure to thrive")."  I get that it's extremely unhealthy, my pops developed diabetes and sleep apnea about 10 years ago due to obesity and it's heartbreaking (please don't take my pops away!!!) but am I going to tell the guy he can't eat at McDick's if he wants a greasy burger?  Probably not.  Maybe that's wrong, I don't think it is.  I do believe that parent's should only feed their kid's healthy foods whenever possible though - that's just good parenting.  But that's on the parents - who are we to start a fat kid witch hunt?

Larry Flynt always says that the most important thing in this world is the ability to be left alone.  That the civil rights to liberty and security, privacy and freedom of conscience are paramount.  In essence, that everyone and anyone should be able to do whatever the fuck they want as long as they aren't breaking the law.  Though parent's may be harming their kiddies with Big Macs and Ding Dongs, it's not all parental...think about advertising, socioeconomic conditions, bullying and other things a parent can't control...

What about all that, Doc?   Can't put a band-aid on a gusher, can you?
